The looming strike by teaching assistants and contract instructors at York may cause a cancellation of most classes at York by as early as Nov. 2nd. The parties will be a legal strike/lockout position on November 2. The University has just announced that it will be canceling most classes on campus during the strike. Here is the University’s official statement.
York students will no doubt have seen the competing propaganda from both the University and the Union around campus. One thing seems clear: the parties still seem to be a fair distance apart. But bargaining will no doubt continue until the strike/lockout deadline, so there may yet be a settlement that averts a strike.
For my own employment law students, please keep posted to the blog for updates on what will happen with our classes.
