Announcing the New "Law of Work Best Paper Award"

by David Doorey September 14, 2017
written by David Doorey September 14, 2017

I’m very excited to announce the new annual Law of Work Best Paper Award, which will be awarded to the best paper submitted to the annual conference of the Canadian Industrial Relations Association (CIRA) that deals with subject matter related to Canadian labour or employment law.   The Award is open to any student or pre-tenure academic and I’m hopeful it will help encourage and promote high level scholarship in work law.

The first Law of Work Award will be awarded at the 2018 Conference in Montreal next May.  Here are some details:

The Canadian Industrial Relations Association is pleased to announce the creation of a new award recognizing exceptional scholarship in the area of Canadian employment and labour law.  A gift from Dr. David Doorey,

CIRA Announces new Law of Work Best Paper Award

CIRA Announces new Law of Work Best Paper Award

Associate Professor at York University, Director of the School of Human Resource Management, and Director of the Osgoode Hall Law School PDP LLM in labour and employment law permits CIRA to award $500 to the best paper submitted to the annual conference in the area of Canadian labour or employment law.  The first Law of Work Award will be presented at the annual CIRA conference held at the University of Quebec in Montreal on May 2-4, 2018. The Law of Work Award is CIRA’s distinction given to the best paper presented at the annual conference. All pre-tenure members (graduate students, post-doctoral and pre-tenure faculty) are invited to submit a full unpublished paper that will proceed through a blind review process to determine acceptance for presentation at the conference and the winner of the competition.  Members interested in submitting a paper for this award should check the annual conference website for details. All authors of the paper must meet the eligibility requirements.  Submission must begin with a cover page containing the title and an abstract of no more than 300 words outlining the purpose of the paper, the methodology used, and main conclusions, be in 12 point font, double-spaced, in APA format and not exceed 10,000 words inclusive of references but excluding abstract and appendices.  Submission in French or English are permitted.

Start working on those papers, and I look forward to handing out the first cheque and Law of Work Best Paper plaque in Montreal!
