Thanks to everyone who attended and gave their hard earned money at the Equality Effect function last night. The small group of people at L’Espresso Bar last night raised over $100,000 for this great cause.
Special thanks to human rights Fiona Sampson and Osgoode Hall graduate, who is leading the project, and May Cheng and Fasken Martineau, who have donated their time and money to this project from the outset. Law firms can do great work. And extremely special shout-out and thanks to Marcia Cardamore and her foundation PeopleSense for donating over $150,000 to the cause! [I learned last night that Marcia and I share an academic connection: we are both graduates of the U of T MIR program, and recipients of the Morley Gunderson Prize in Industrial Relations!]
The Equality Effect is raising funds to launch a lawsuit against the Kenyan Police for their systematic failure to enforce rape and sexual abuse laws against bastards who rape girls as young as 3 months old! There is no grey area here, sometimes there is just black and white, right and wrong.
Check out the Equality Effect website here.
Watch this video, and see if it doesn’t move you to support this great cause and the brave people who are fighting back.
