The Clawbies

by David Doorey December 9, 2008
written by David Doorey December 9, 2008

The Clawbies are awards for Canadian blogs.  The mastermind of the Clawbies is Steve Matthews.  Steve has asked us Bogger types to nominate three favorite blogs for this years’ competition.  I have to confess that I don’t have as much time as I’d like to read other people’ blogs.  But I do like to check out some of my favorites when I can.  In no particular order, here are my three choices.
Progressive Economics Forum Blog:  This is a place to go to read sophisticated arguments about economic and social policy that aren’t just about lower taxes,  less regulation, and the supposed benefits of, unregulated ‘free’ markets.  I don’t agree with everything posted here, but the material is always worth a read. Heck, the way governments are investing in banks and private industry these days, while attaching conditions such as limits on executive compensation, perhaps ought to make you think that these people are onto something.
Law is Cool:  This is a blog run by law students, so it is close to my heart, since my own blog was inspired by my desire to raise awareness and peak student interest and passion in law and policy.  The content is wide-ranging, and even occasionally addresses labour and employment issues.
Human Rights in the Workplace:
This is Donna Seale’s blog that deals with interesting stories, issues, and case studies relating to human rights law.   Human rights issues in employment are a source of great interest to my students, and Donna’s blog often includes great analysis of what can be quite complex issues.  Plus, Donna and I share an Osgoode Hall law degree, so clearly she is a woman of great intelligence.
I’d also like to give special mention to the two new student blogs on labour and employment law that hit the blogosphere this year from Ottawa Law School and Osgoode Hall.  Hopefully, you can keep the momentum going.  And thanks to those of you who have nominated Doorey’s Workplace Law Blog.  I’m new to the blogosphere, so it is extremely rewarding to know people out there are reading.  Cheers.
