Each year, Woodsworth College and the Centre for Industrial Relations at the University of Toronto present the Sefton Memorial Lecture on matters related to labour relations and work. Here is the Sefton Lecture website. This years’ talk speaker is Don Drummond, Senior Vice-President and Chief Economist of the TD Bank. He will be speaking on the Changing Canadian Workplace. The lecture this year is on March 25th at 7 p.m. at Woodsworth College, which is at 119 St. George Street, just south of Bloor. It is free, and there’s usually wine and munchies after the talk. It’s fun and educational, so try and make it if this thing interests you.
Two other awards are given out at the Sefton Lecture each year. The Sefton Prize is awarded for outstanding contribution to industrial relations, and this year the recipient in Bob Baldwin, former research director of the Canadian Labour Congress.
The other prize is the Morley Gunderson Prize for “outstanding professional achievement” and “significant service to the Centre for Industrial Relations” at the University of Toronto. The recipient of that prize this year is, well, ME! Thanks very much to Professor Anil Verma, the selection committee, and Morley Gunderson of course, for this completely unexpected recognition.
