Two Professor Jobs in Industrial Relations or HRM

It’s getting harder and harder to find full time academic jobs, but my School at York has just posted for two tenure-stream Assistant Professor jobs.

Here are the postings on the York University jobs board.

The job ad specifies that we are looking for specializations “that complement the research and teaching needs” of the School.  This covers a broad range of subject areas, including industrial relations, organization behaviour, industrial psychology, among others, as well as different research methodologies.
The School of HRM at York is now the largest such school in Canada with 14 full-time faculty.  The School was born in 2009 after a split off a business school.  It is housed within the broad-ranging Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies.  Today, the
School has a large and very successful undergraduate program, an executive Masters degree, and a thriving Ph.D program.   Other universities house the subject area covered by York’s School of HRM in business faculties or, as in the case of the University of Toronto and Queens, in specialized ‘centres’ for industrial relations and HRM.  The professors study work from a wide range of perspectives, utilizing a diverse set of methodologies and ideological approaches.  The School of HRM is multi-disciplinary, with academic backgrounds ranging from sociology, psychology, industrial relations, business, economists, critical management theory, and of course, law.   The School of HRM’s faculty are among the most successful units at York in terms of winning competitive research grants.
