Professor Doorey is an Associate Professor of Work Law and Industrial Relations at York University.  He is the0042 Director of the School of HRM at York and Director of Osgoode Hall Law School’s executive LLM Program in Labour and Employment Law and on the Advisory Board of the Osgoode Certificate program in Labour Law.
He is a Senior Research Associate at Harvard Law School’s Labor and Worklife Program and a member of the International Advisory Committee on Harvard University’s Clean Slate Project, which is re-imaging labor law for the 21st century

Professor Doorey is a multiple teaching award winner at York University, including the recipient of the presitigious Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.   His research examines labour and employment law, labour issues within global supply chains, corporate social responsibility, legal theory, and the intersection of work law and climate change, among other subjects.
He was educated in programs in law and industrial relations at the University of Toronto (B.A., M.I.R.), the London School of Economics (LLM), and Osgoode Hall Law School (LL.B., Ph.D).  He was called to the Bars of Ontario and British Columbia in 1997, and before returning to academia he practiced labour  law on behalf of employees and unions in both provinces, first as an associate at Victory Square Law Office in Vancouver and then as Canadian Legal Counsel to the United Steelworkers of America in Toronto.  He has appeared as counsel in the courts of both provinces and before administrative tribunals across Canada.
Prof. Doorey is Articles Review Editor for Canada’s leading peer-reviewed law journal in the field, the Canadian Labour and Employment Law Journal and sits on the editorial board of the law reporter Canadian Cases on Employment Law.  He is a recipient of the Morley Gunderson Prize in Industrial Relations by the University of Toronto’s Centre for Industrial Relations and Human Resources for outstanding professional achievement and service to Canadian industrial relations.  He has been awarded over $100,000 in competitive grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council for his work on labour law, legal theory, and labour practices governance within global supply chains.  Doorey’s Law of Work Blog was honoured with the Fodden Award for the Best Law Blog in Canada and in 2016 was among the inaugural class admitted to the Canadian Law Blog Hall of Fame.

Publications
Professor Doorey’s scholarly articles on labour and employment law and regulatory theory have been published in leading North American law journals and cited by the Supreme Court of Canada.   He is a member of the Labour Law Casebook Group, which published Edition 8 of Labour and Employment Law: Cases, Materials, and Commentary.   His 2005 paper entitled “Employer Bullying: Implied Terms of Fair Dealing in Canadian Employment Contracts” received the Queens Law Journal’s  David Watson Memorial Award for the article making the most significant contribution to legal scholarship.
Professor Doorey is a frequent media commentator on matters related to industrial relations and workplace law and a regular presenter at labour and employment law conferences.
